June 2022 marks the 175th Anniversary of the Southampton to Dorchester Railway. A series of events along the line embracing the ‘Past, Present and Future’ of the Railway will be running at Southampton, Brockenhurst, Bournemouth, Wareham, Wool and Dorchester South Stations.
A collaborative project between Purbeck Community Rail Partnership, Three Rivers CRP, Solent CRP and BC&P’s Mind the Gap project, the project is keen to involve young people.
Young people aged 11-18 year old are asked to imagine the railway of the future. Participants are encouraged to be as creative as they like – thinking about the ways the railway might look different in another hundred and seventy-five years! The work can be created in any medium and entrants are encouraged to think about what makes their local station unique and what will change. All entries will be displayed during the month of June and prizes will be awarded. Entries should be sent to southamptontodorchester@swanagerailway.co.uk by Monday 16th May.
More information on the celebrations occurring to mark the 175th Anniversary in Hampshire and Dorset will be shared closer to the time on the Purbeck CRP website and on www.instagram.com/175southamptontodorchester/
