The Purbeck Community Partnership were once again present at this second Community Weekend. The Swanage Railway were welcoming the public to see behind the scenes of how one of Dorset’s major tourist attractions is operated and maintained by their dedicated team of staff, most of which are devoted volunteers. This was also an opportunity to recruit new volunteers to take up the many roles on offer.
The atmosphere at last year’s community weekend was incredible and it was wonderful that the event was so well supported and prompted so many compliments from the public who attended.
The Swanage Railway team opened the doors on a wide range of areas often not accessible by visitors. It was a fun and interesting day for all the family. At each station there was a welcome desk and a variety of activities to participate in. Activities during the Community Weekend included:
• Shunter Driver Experience
• Herston Works Tour
• Heritage Bus
• Ticket Inspector Experience.
• Signal Box Experience at Harmans Cross or Corfe Castle
• Guard Experience
• Narrow Gauge Diesel Train display at the Purbeck Mineral and Mining Museum
